This is one of the prompt writings that I am doing.
This is the prompt
Write a story about the following scenario: One woman knocks on the door of another woman's house. She wants something. She lies to get what she wants. Who is she? Does she get what she wants? How does the woman who answers the door respond? Do they know each other? What happens next?
This is my piece
Bam! Bam! Bam!
A woman waited patiently outside the door. She was wearing all black; a black shirt, jacket, shoes, gloves, and clutch. Her hair was pitch dark too, it was tied in a tight ponytail with no strands out of place. Her eyes were brown up to the point of being black. The door slowly creaked open, revealing a woman around forty and the complete opposite of the first woman. She had brown hair that started to gray which was held loosely in the back of her head in a bun. Her eyes sparkled a vivid blue. She had bags under her eyes from sleepless nights, and wore a red flowery dress with a checkered apron.
“Hello?”
“Hi, Ms. Mire?”
“Yes that’s me. What can I do for you?
“I’m looking for a vase.” The first woman states slowly.
“May I ask who wants to find this vase?” Ms. Mire stuttered looking up and down the barren dirt road. Seeing nothing but grass and a lone car.
“Oh no one in particular, surely someone you don’t know.”
“Well then,” Ms. Mire sighed clearing her throat and smoothing down her apron,
“What kind of vase are you looking for?”
“One that is black with a gold dragon that literally crawls around the entire vase.”
Ms. Mire suddenly turned a sickly pale.
The first woman took notice and smirked,
“You see it’s a family heirloom of mine. My father wanted it back desperately. So much that he died for it, so now it’s my responsibility to get it back.”
“Well there’s no vase here so you can check somebody else’s house. Bye-bye now, have a nice day,” Ms. Mire tried to shut the door but the second woman put her boot in the way.
“Why, that’s the strangest thing.” She said with a chuckle, “Because, the tracking device in that vase led me right here.” She says slowly drawing out each syllable in a low tone.
“My dad risked his life to save that vase, and don’t think I won’t do the same!” Ms. Mire shrieked, her voice trembling.
“Oh Ms. Mire,” The second woman said disappointed, clucking her tongue, and pulling out a gun from her clutch, “If it’s your life you want to sacrifice, I have no problem taking it before taking the vase.”
Ms. Mire’s hands started to shake as she reached into her apron to also pull out a gun, starting to slowly back away from the open door. The first woman kicks it open and with each tiny step that Ms. Mire takes backward the other woman took a giant one forward.
“Who are you?” Ms. Mire whispered shakily.
“Me? Why, I’m your worst nightmare!” She yelled aiming her gun at Ms. Mire’s face.
Bang!
“Now to find my vase,” The woman mumbled under her breath stepping over Ms. Mires body and pocketing the gun.
I realize that the lie isn't very clear, I don't think she did lie so that won't be in there.
I don´t think the characters are consistent or really believable in their behaviour. The concept is good, but needs some more thought in its execution.
